GIS - Scientific Interest Group (SIG) / Management and Territorial Dynamics

The Scientific Interest Group (SIG) "Management & Territorial Dynamics" was established in January 2024. It is both an institutional entity and a collaborative framework governed by an agreement that defines the scientific scope, the rationale behind the partnership, and the expertise and experience contributed by each member. The agreement has an expected duration of four years. The founding members are: University of Corsica Pasquale Paoli, French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Clermont Auvergne University. The laboratories and structures involved in the SIG's activities include: The CNRS Joint Research Unit (UMR)"Lieux Identités eSpace Activités" (LISA) at the University of Corsica Pasquale Paoli; The EME IAE of Corsica at the University of Corsica Pasquale Paoli; Research Team EA 3849 Clermont Recherche Management (CleRMa) at Clermont Auvergne University; The IAE Clermont Auvergne School of Management at Clermont Auvergne University.

Why was th SIG Created

Its creation stems from several observations:

• Territorial issues are central to public policy concerns.
• The identification, emergence, and sustainability of territorial dynamics are key challenges for achieving economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable development.
• The study of territorial stakeholders, particularly in rural areas, including small businesses, non-profit organizations, craftspeople, farmers, and local authorities, has often been underestimated in management and business research.
• The various disciplines within management sciences can contribute to a better understanding of organizational dynamics at the territorial level.
• There is a need to create a platform for exchange, collaboration, and knowledge dissemination bringing together researchers from different management-related disciplines.

Objectives of the SIG

• Promote the study, dissemination, and use of scientific knowledge related to territorial dynamics in management research.
• Contribute to greater visibility for scientific research conducted on this topic.
• Strengthen existing synergies and encourage the development of new forms of scientific collaboration, including with international partners.
• Facilitate access to national and international research funding programs.
• Contribute to the transfer of knowledge concerning the management of territorial dynamics in both initial and continuing education.

• Dissemination of our research topics through professional webinars on various themes.
• Workshops and closer collaboration between research teams (from Spring 2025 onward), including the organization of the 1st SIG Meetings in Clermont-Ferrand.
• Greater integration into scientific communities (starting with the AIRMAP 2025 Conference) through the creation of a workshop focused on territorial development issues.

The Scientific Interest Group (SIG) "Management & Territorial Dynamics" aims to promote the study, dissemination, and development of scientific knowledge related to territorial dynamics. The SIG Meetings bring together stakeholders including researchers, elected officials, practitioners, and non-profit leaders involved in the economic, social, and ecological transition of territories. The objective of this first event was to encourage the sharing of experiences and expertise regarding the challenges, dynamics, and practices associated with territorial transition in both urban and rural areas. The event welcomed contributions from a wide range of disciplines, including: Management Sciences Information and Communication Sciences Geography and Regional Planning Environmental Sciences Economics

The 1st SIG Meetings took place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Clermont-Ferrand under the theme: "Implementing Territorial Resilience and Transition: Initiatives and Experience Sharing".
